I am a children’s photographer.
In my mind, the country song, “Let Them Be Little” says it all. Children are just perfect how they are. Let them read a book quietly in the corner or chase Daddy around the oak tree. Let them be exactly who they are at this moment for this moment is fleeting. My personal approach to children’s photography is one of sitting back, with my camera ready. I may ask questions and interact subtly with your little one or a session may contain some crazy, jumpin’ fun times. Don’t be surprised if I sneak them away from Mom and Dad for a brief moment for sometimes kids really open up in these moments. No matter what we do for our children’s session, you can bet you won’t be hearing me utter the words, “Say Cheese!” though!
What do we wear, Carrie?
Ah, good question! When preparing for your child’s photography session you want to be mindful of colors, patterns and styles of clothing. I love bright, vibrant colors with at least someone wearing a pattern. These outfits look smashing in photographs and many times is a great way to bring out the personalities of your little ones. Clothing or hair accessories are also a great way to add interest and zest to the picture. Don’t forget hats, boots and bows, too. Most importantly, dress your child(ren) in something they feel comfortable in so they won’t hesitate at being themselves and having fun!
Where should we do our children’s photo session?
Location, location, location. Yes, it does matter tremendously because it sets the tone for the kind of images you’d like to create. First, consider where your children will be most comfortable. Small children may do best closer to home like a backyard or favorite park. Other options include a downtown alleyway, barnyard full of texture or flowering field. I’m happy to discuss location with you upon booking your session so we might choose someplace that fits your style perfectly.
Other tips
To increase our odds of having the best children’s photography session ever, it’s best to create happy, stress-free children. Well-napped kiddos with full tummies tend to be most open to playful interactions with a strange lady holding a large black thing! Also, limit the amount of demands put on them so that they are relaxed and happy. We want to see their little personalities SHINE so I can capture it forever!
